How to Achieve Naturally Flawless Skin!

There’s no doubt about it; glowing skin is the number one priority on everyone’s beauty to-do list. But right now, you might be worried that you don’t have particularly healthy skin and want to do something about it. Or you might just see other people with flawless show-stopping skin and want it. Either way you’ve came to the right place.

Before getting into how we can achieve naturally beautiful glowing skin, it’s important to understand why skin care is important. If we get scientific for a second, your skin is your body’s largest organ. It’s the largest barrier against infection that we have. Keeping our skin healthy and moist helps keeps this barrier strong. When the skin gets dry and irritated by harsh soaps or products, skin cracks can occur, this makes us more prone to infection! It also protects you from the sun’s rays – specifically ultraviolet light – that can damage cells. So, its about more than just wanting our skin to look good.

Without further delay, here are my top 5 tips to having naturally flawless skin…


Never, ever go to bed with makeup on!!

No matter how exhausted you are or how late it is: Take. It. Off. Removing your makeup can make the difference between beautiful, glowing skin and a complexion that looks dull and has clogged pores. Plus, while you’re sleeping, makeup can get pushed deeper into your pores, leading to acne. Another factor you might not consider: Some dead skin cells are meant to shed every day, but having makeup on 24/7 can cause them to stick to the skin’s surface. This will lead to regular breakouts and set you back to square one.


Cleansing each and every day is a must!!

And I mean both AM and PM. Throughout the day the skin on your face is continually covered with bacteria, pollutants, viruses, dirt, and old (dead) skin cells. Daily facial washing removes these impurities to give the skin a fresh look. Professionals recommend cleansing once in the morning and twice at night before applying your other products. Which, yes, you should be using!

Sunscreen is an essential!

You should be applying it to your face and body every day, and reapplying throughout the day. 90% of wrinkles are from sun exposure and it’s so much easier to prevent the damage than it is to fix it afterwards. Even the five minutes you spend in the sun running into the shops or work each day add up. “People often only think to use sunscreen when they’re out for an extended period of time, but even incidental exposure every day over a few years causes brown spots and fine lines to show up earlier,” explains Dr. Fusco. So, 365 days a year, regardless of the season, use a face cream with SPF 15 or higher, then apply your makeup. If this commitment seems too large to take on, start with your face and stick to indirect sunlight/lightweight clothes that shield your skin from the sun.  If you worry about ruining your makeup or getting excessively greasy throughout the day, reach for a powdered sunscreen brush!


If you aren’t exfoliating, start!

Exfoliating achieves smaller pores. It’s amazing how something so tiny can feel so huge, but enlarged pores are one of the most common beauty complaints. Pores appear larger when they’re filled with dirt, oil, dead skin cells. Remove those plugs, and they seem to shrink.  If you’re worried about a negative reaction occurring, or not sure where to begin, ask a dermatologist-one that is familiar with your skin type. One of the best exfoliators I can recommend that you use a sponge with a clay based foaming cleanser inside. The cleanser activates once you run it under water. It works miracles.


What you put in your body is as important as what you put on it!

A brighter complexion is on everyone’s wish list, but the trick to getting one is easier than you might think. If you’re like most folks, the first place you look for skin care products is a drug or department store. But when it comes to healthy skin, those in the know are spending almost as much time shopping the supermarket shelves as the beauty aisles. Avocados contain healthy fats and vitamins C and E to keep skin plump, bright, and hydrated. Also, carrots and tomatoes are stocked with antioxidants, which protect against damaging free radicals. So before going out to buy a super expensive skin product; try adding a few of these into your diet and see if you notice a difference to your skin.

Making time for your skincare is a definite essential! Plus, over time you might just see it as a time of day you look forward to (a little bit of pampering that you no doubt deserve). If you’re having trouble finding time to take care of your skin properly, I highly recommend trying a simple face mask. It tightens, firms, tones, and smooths in 15 minutes. It’s sort of my “go to” when I need a quick all-around skin care boost.
