Eyelashes Extentions…..YES? NO?

I know how amazing it sounds; full, long, dark eyelashes every single day without needing coats of marscara or any effort. And that’s not all, they last up to 12 weeks! It’s definitely tempting. But does it live up to the buzz?

Here’s a few pros;

First of all they look AMAZING. I mean look at the before and after pictures.

You get all the drama of false lashes, without the artificial look or visible lash band. Not to mention – you wake up looking fabulous every day, without any effort or makeup. Mascara? Eh, forget it. You don’t need it now.

Another benefit, your morning routine is cut down by 20 to 30 minutes because lash extensions alleviate the need for curling your lashes, applying mascara, or wearing eye makeup altogether. They make you look wide awake, and they take the attention away from dark blue under-eye circles. You could even go totally concealer-free.

Extensions also take dreaded mascara smudges, clumps, and flakes completely out of the equation. No matter how rough your day or night was, you will always wake up looking gorgeous with absolutely no makeup. Many people who have had extensions have actually said that they even see less wrinkles and fine line round their eyes as they aren’t constantly removing their stubborn eye makeup and pulling at the delicate skin around the eye area.

Lash extensions give you instant gratification. It can take weeks or even months to see results from eyelash growing serums or vitamins kick in, but with eyelash extensions you get longer, thicker lashes within hours. All while you were laying there in a spa with your eyes shut. That’s what I call heaven.

I know, you’re already convinced. What could possibly discourage you after hearing all that? But like anything else they’re some cons;

Like any good beauty product-they’re expensive. They can cost anything between £50 to £400 to get them done once, depending on the type of lashes you choose and if a stylist or a master stylist applies them. So the financial side is something you should definitely weigh up.

Another thing to keep in mind,  “Low maintenance” and “eyelash extensions” are two phrases you will never hear in the same sentence. They take a lot of effort to maintain. You have to go and have them filled every 2-4 weeks otherwise they will fall out prematurely and you will be walking around looking like a complete mess. This can be super time consuming, each session can take up to two hours. But if you add up the 20 minutes of time each week you save in the morning, it’s a give and take.

You also have to train yourself not to rub your eyes, so if you have allergies and really can’t kick this habit, eyelash extensions might not be the best thing for you.

The extensions fall out with your natural lashes, which fall out naturally over the course of a lash cycle (on average 8-12 weeks). So you’re losing extensions along the way. This means the only time you’re going to look THAT fabulous  is straight after walking out of the spa. Then they just fall apart over time.

So is it a good idea?

I know I’ve thrown a lot of information at you, but its important information to know if you’re considering eyelash extensions. While they are expensive, and high maintenance, they can also give you the eyelashes you have always wanted and enhance your natural beauty. You should spend time researching different beauticians in your area, and always make sure they are licensed and certified. Avoid eyelash glue that contains harmful ingredients like formaldehyde, as they can cause an allergic reaction. But if you’re willing to pay up and do the time then you’ll have Disney Princess lashes before you know it.
